Winterly White Blossom

Hey there,

do you know that feeling when you look at some older clothes and you kind of don't like to wear them anymore so often but you don't want to give them away either because they are still perfectly fine and cosy as well? I had this feelling with one of my black winter pullovers, so I decided to pimp it up a little. As winter draws nearer and the days get colder I thought it would fit to give it a little winterly touch with this white ice flower-like appliqué.



 What you'll need:

• white lace
• scissors
• needle and white thread

How it works:

Start by cutting out eight 5x19cm and four 5x15cm sized stripes of lace. 

Fold the stripes into half, loop them and fix them by hand with some small stitches.

Now you can form the flower. First arrange the larger loops and fix everything in the middle of the blossom, then the smaller loops. Pull the loops apart so that they get more volume. 

For the middle of the blossom form a small rose out of a little piece of lace and apply it in the center of the flower.

Now apply the flower with some small stitches on your sweater. Done! :)

Girls' Sunday at the Museum

Hello everybody,

yesterday I met my very good friend Laura (whom I haven't seen in ages) and we spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at the Albertina in Vienna. Currently they show an exhibition about Henri Matisse and the Fauves, which is really, really beautiful. So if you live in the city or get the chance to visit Vienna any time soon make sure you don't miss it. It's really recommendable! :)
After the exhibition we went to Le Bol, a really nice French café at Vienna's first district, where you can get super tasty quiches, salads, baguettes and of course French sweets such as éclairs or bombe au chocolat. Yummy!

Easy DIY shopping bag with iron-ons

Hey folks,

Some time ago I bought these very cool iron-ons from Sukie without really knowing what I wanted to do with them. But two days ago I thought that I needed a new shopping bag and voilá, for this purpose the iron-ons just seemed right. :)

What you'll need:

• linen or other thick fabric
• tailor's chalk
• scissors
• needle and thread
• sewing machine
• iron-ons
• iron

How it works:

Draw two rectangles (38 x 41cm) and two stripes (38 x 4cm) onto your fabric. Add 1 cm seam allowances to every side of the stripes and 1 cm to the two long and to one of the short sides of the rectangles. Add 4 to 5 cm seam allowance to the other short side. This is going to become the open side of your bag.

Put the right sides of the rectangles onto each other and sew them together on three sides. Trim the loose ends of your fabric with zigzag stitch.

Afterwards sew a double-fold hem at the open side of the bag (the same way as we already did here).

For the handles of the bag take one of your fabric stripes, fold it in half and sew the halves together along the long side and along one of the short sides. Then turn the stripe inside out and close the other short side by hand. Do the same with the other stripe.

Sew the handles onto your bag.

Now the shopping bag is finished, you just have to turn it inside out. To adjust the iron-ons cut them out and put them upside down onto your bag. Lay your iron down on the center of your decal and apply light but even pressure. Move your iron over the transfer from the outer edges towards the center of the transfer for about 3 to 4 minutes. Now you should be able to easily remove the decal backing away from the fabric (peel slowly!).

  Done! :)

 

Plaid Love

of course I went shopping in London as well... I mean, who could resist?!
You may have already noticed that I love a hint of plaid in my outfits (see here or here). Therefore, among other things, I brought home this (what I think kind of) British and also already a little Christmassy looking outfit. :)

Impressions from Autumn London

Hey folks,

I spent the last few days in London for business and pleasure. :)
I left my laptop at home, therefore the post delay, but instead I made some pictures of beautiful autumn London that I was looking forward to sharing with you.  

On Wednesday I was watching a very cool dance piece - Hofesh Shechter's "Sun" - at Sadler's Wells London. Before that I was strolling around the neighbourhood a little.

After my little walk I went to Pret A Manger. I love those little food stores, where you can get freshly made sandwiches, soups, coffee and sweets and I always make sure to pay them a visit when I'm coming to London. Yummy!

On Thursday I made a nice little shopping day and went to Spitalfields Market, a really nice market in the east of London where you can get almost everything from knick-knacks to furniture to clothes.

In addition I went to Harrods for the very first time, where I totally fell in love with the food market. Rooms full of coffee, tea, sweets and delicacies from all over the world - simply amazing!

On Friday I did something for my education and went to the museum. ;) At first I went to Sherlock Holmes museum, which totally wasn't worth the entrance fee to be honest as I was done with it in about half an hour. Luckily Tate Modern, which I visited in the afternoon, was great instead. Three floors full of impressive modern art and the building itself is interesting as well.
