Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Hello out there,

last weekend David and I made vegetarian spring rolls for the first time and they turned out fabulously! We used white cabbage, spring onions and tofu for the filling... Yummy! Here comes the recipe we used:

What you'll need (for ca. 10 spring rolls)
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1/2 white cabbage head
  • 100g tofu
  • 1 lemon
  • sesame oil
  • sesame salt  (recipe to be found here)
  • pepper
  • rice paper

How it works

Shred the white cabbage and cut the tofu and and the spring onion into small pieces.

For the filling gently roast the vegetables and the tofu. Grate the peel of your lemon and add the lemon zest to the vegetables. Add a little water and boil vegetables until done (personally I like it when the vegetables are still a bit crunchy). Add sesame salt and pepper to taste.

Put one of your rice papers into cold water until it gets soft.

Then put it onto a plate and fill the spring roll with one or two tablespoons of filling following the picture instructions below.

If you want you can now eat the raw spring rolls but we prefered to fry them in sesame oil for a few minutes until they got a nice brown colour. Yummy!
Enjoy!

Gift Wrapper with Origami Swans

Hi there,

as the weather last weekend was rainy and grey I had the perfect excuse to stay inside, watch a bunch of movies and work on some little DIY and cooking projects. Among other things I thought of a nice gift wrapping idea with origami birds. Swans to be exact... :)
As I never really did origami before I was a little uncertain if the actual result would conform my imagination but as it turned out the swans were quite easy to fold, although I did one or two with blank paper before folding the actual wrapping paper.

What you'll need
  • two sheets of matching paper
  • scissors
  • Scotch tape
  • gift box
How it works

Use the first sheet of wrapping paper to wrap your gift box.

Now it's time to fold your swans. Cut out two squares (21 x 21 cm & 16 x 16 cm) of the other sheet of paper and here we go! For instructions I used this really cool video tutorial by BesserBasteln:

Once you've finished your origami birds simply put them on the upside of your package and fix them either with a little bit of glue or some scotch tape.

Done! :)

Have a nice day!

Yours,
Tulip

Sometimes you have to gratinate it!

Hey folks,

I've been going through a bit of a tough time lately. I try to eat clean and healthy most of the time, but sometimes you just have to gratinate your food! :)
I think you can add cheese to nearly every dish (apart from asian recipes ;))

This is my version of mac and cheese: just roast one chopped onion, some garlic and bacon, add brussels sprouts and maccaroni, flavour it well (with italian herbs, chilli and if you like some Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce -> my favourite lately ;)). Then add lots of grated cheese of your choice and put the pan in the oven for 15 minutes.
But you can also gratinate some more healthy food, like I did last week:
Boil some potatoes and place them in a pan, together with some half-cut cherry tomatoes and blanched spinach. Then just add some mozzarella, salt, italian herbs and pepper and put it in the oven for 15 minutes. YUMMY!

Green & Spicy: Guacamole

Hello everybody,

I hope everythings fine out there and everyone of you has had a good day! :)
Today I wanna share my recipe for home-made guacamole with you. It's actually really, really easy and super tasty!

What you'll need (for a party crowd)
  • 6 avocados
  • 1 onion
  • 1 lemon
  • salt
  • chili
How it works

Cut your avocados into half, remove the stones and put the avocado pulp into a bowl.

Drip the juice of one lemon over the avocados immediately, otherwise they will turn brown. Afterwards mash them with a fork.

Cut the onion into small pieces and roast these in a small amount of olive oil for a few minutes. Then put them to the mashed avocados and mix everything together.

As final step season the guacamole with salt and chili. Done! :)

Have a nice evening!

Yours,
Tulip

Pearl Dress In Action

Hi folks,

do you remember the pearl dress I made last week? Of course I needed to try it out in real life immediately and wore it to my brother's birthday party.
I paired it with white lace gloves and white polka dot tights and have to admit I felt quite elegant in front of my sister in law's beautiful grand piano. :)

Have a beautiful day!

Yours,
Tulip
